Welcome to the exclusive part 1 of the "Re-Engineering Foreign Trade Strategies for Accelerating MSME Ecommerce Exports"
India’s Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) provides the basic framework of policy and strategy for promoting exports and trade. Increased use of B2C e-commerce exports will allow MSMEs to better compete with products and services offered by foreign competitors. It has been rightly identified by the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Union Commerce Minister that exports will be a key pillar for India’s economic recovery and subsequent growth in a post COVID 19 landscape.
One of the few takeaways of the global pandemic is that it has highlighted the importance of increased digitisation and e-commerce as means to improve economic well-being and to create opportunities for Indian micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). With the government of India looking at an exports-led recovery, India’s proposed Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2021-26 suggests a number of important steps to empowering SMEs.
The main focus of this discussion is to highlight the challenges in India’s Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) and suggest changes that should be integrated into the Foreign Trade Policy 2021, especially for e-commerce exports (B2B & B2C)
E-commerce has already demonstrated immense potential in enabling exporters to reach foreign customers more effectively by taking advantage of existing operational and supply chain efficiencies offered by e-commerce platforms.
